Greetings.

I am happy to report that the Academy board has had several fruitful meetings. We have an exceptional group that is bringing new energy. We have many new ideas being discussed and I am excited about the future of our organization. I encourage you to share you ideas for events or issues that you want us to discuss.

The Presidents’ Gala was a huge success. Dr. Williams’ presentation was exceptional and his award was indeed well deserved. Thanks to all who attended and congratulations Dr. Williams!

We are looking forward to future events sponsored by the Academy. Dr. Daniel Carey, the current president of MSV, will be at the Center in the Square on May 20th. Please be sure to attend. We have asked him to discuss the current political issues that seem ever-present. He is sure to provide us all with insight and a better understanding of the current politics of medicine and the role of the MSV and your Academy.

As a parting thought, I know that as physicians we care deeply about the work we do. We are concerned about the care of our patients and the future of our profession. When we have important issues we want addressed the Medical Society of Virginia and the Roanoke Academy of Medicine provide us all with a voice that influences the policies that shape our professional lives. Please continue to support the important organizations.
